Please Read This Before Ordering
A minimum order required for irises is $30.00 which includes handling and shipping.
We accept checks, money orders, Visa and Mastercard. I no longer accept on line Paypal payments due to substantially increased costs of doing so. Credit cards can not be automatically processed over the internet. Information needs to be completed in the shopping cart and I will manually process the charge card.
Iris substitutions: Our garden is open to the public during the entire bloom season. There are numerous varieties that are so popular that the demand outweighs the availability. It is impossible to control the available inventory on both the website and in the garden during this busy time. As a result you may have ordered a variety that we have sold out of for the year. If this occurs may we substitute a similar variety at an equal or higher value? I use the iris number for my garden identification. On the first page of the shopping cart as you process your order you will find a box under “May we substitute.” You can put a list of iris numbers in this box as your choices for substitutions if you wish.
Bearded irises need plenty of sun and a soil mixture that does not retain moisture for long periods of time. If your planting area does not meet those requirements please think twice about wanting to plant irises in your garden as they will not do well for you.
While flower pictures in general have greatly improved with the arrival of digital cameras the web pictures may not reflect the true color of an iris as it would growing in your garden. Many variables affect the picture quality from the time we take the picture in the garden until it is posted on the web. You may see a black, red, or green color description but these are only general as I have yet to see what I would refer to as a true black, red, or green iris.
Our garden is a hobby and display garden first and a commercial garden second. The rhizomes are growing in huge clumps. They grow longer in the same garden location as do irises growing in a strictly commercial garden. For this reason our rhizomes tend to be smaller due to the vast number of rhizomes per plant location. The rhizomes are healthy and are adapted to our climate here in northeast West Virginia . I do not want you to be surprised by the rhizome size upon receipt.
As with any newly established plant you may loose a rhizome or two over the first winter. Many varieties of the broken colored irises are especially hard to get started. If you sustain the loss of one or two the first winter we will replace that iris with the exact iris free of charge with your next order. If you wish to have the iris replaced but are not placing another order we will replace the iris free of charge but you will have to pay for the handling and shipping cost.
We strive to assure that you receive the exact irises that you ordered but from time to time we do make a mistake. If you find that we have made an error in your order please contact us so we may correct the problem to your satisfaction.
All irises that you purchase from us will be tagged with the catalog number, iris name, and color description. We include extras with each order.
Bloom: You may not receive much bloom the first year after planting but full bloom should be expected the second year with the correct growing conditions. There is an old saying about newly planted perennials in general. “The first year after planting they sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap.”
A word about rebloomers. These are irises that bloom in the spring and again in the fall if you have the right growing conditions. You need to keep them watered and fertilized during the summer so they do not go dormant. In order to get them to rebloom you will have to give them more tender loving care.
